Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), met with a group of lawyers in Adiala Jail, where he discussed various legal matters, including issues related to his wife, Bushra Bibi.
The lawyers present at the meeting included Qazi Anwar, Faisal Chaudhry, Ali Ejaz Butter, Pervez Iqbal, and Raye Salman Kharal. Prior to this meeting, Imran Khan’s family also visited him in the Adiala Jail conference room, where discussions focused on the 190 million pounds case and the sentence handed down by the court.
After the meeting, Faisal Chaudhry, one of the lawyers, spoke to the media outside Adiala Jail. He explained that a wide range of topics were discussed during the meeting with Imran Khan. The PTI leader expressed his concern over the 26th amendment, claiming it had damaged the judiciary by allowing cases against the government to be transferred, thus undermining the fairness of the justice system. He reiterated that PTI stands for an independent and strong judiciary.
Imran Khan also stated that if the courts were independent in the country, incidents like those on May 9 and November 26 would not have occurred. He criticized the current government for its efforts to impose authoritarian rule, weaken judicial independence, and crush PTI.
The PTI founder expressed hope that the darkness of this unjust system would soon end with the arrival of true justice. He also mentioned that his wife, Bushra Bibi, was a victim of the same flawed justice system, which she refuses to accept.
Faisal Chaudhry also revealed that Imran Khan has instructed Ali Amin and Salman Akram to send letters regarding the non-hearing of human rights petitions. They plan to respond to the allegations made in the Apex Committee and will launch a vigorous campaign for the restoration of judicial independence across bar associations.
Chaudhry further mentioned that the PTI founder’s wife could not visit him today, and they would file a petition in this regard. He noted that the jail administration had been contacted about the legal grounds for the denial of the meeting, adding that it was an attempt to exert pressure on Imran Khan.
Regarding the issue of missing persons, Chaudhry confirmed that Qazi Anwar’s report on the missing workers is ready and will be made public soon. He also praised the government’s efforts to present individuals from their list of missing persons, thanks to PTI’s advocacy.
In conclusion, Faisal Chaudhry clarified that Imran Khan had not commented on Donald Trump. However, he congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States. Chaudhry also mentioned that the previous US government had failed to sign a petition on behalf of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
