PTA Continues VPN Whitelisting Process, Registers 20,437 VPN Service Providers

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made significant progress in its VPN whitelisting process, registering 20,437 VPN service providers so far. This includes 1,286 VPN companies that have registered 19,840 VPNs in Pakistan, as well as 136 freelancers who have registered 180 VPNs.

The Software Houses Association (P@SHA) has also registered 417 VPNs, bringing the total number of registered companies to 1,422. The PTA’s efforts aim to curb illegal VPN use and enforce the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Additionally, the PTA has blocked 469 mobile applications, including 435 Android apps and 34 Apple apps, for containing anti-Islamic content, promoting immorality, and engaging in fraud.

The PTA has also clarified its cybersecurity audit process, stating that it is conducted annually to ensure the sustainability of telecom infrastructure and consumer cybersecurity. The audit is carried out by third-party auditors to maintain transparency and adhere to international standards.
