The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a statement clarifying reports of blocking unregistered Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in Pakistan. Contrary to recent media reports, the PTA spokesperson confirmed that VPNs are not being blocked in the country.
However, the PTA is encouraging all IT companies, software houses, freelancers, and banks to register their IPs for using VPNs. This registration process is aimed at ensuring that internet services to these entities are not affected in case of any disruption.
The PTA emphasized that VPN registration is a “one window operation” available on the PTA and Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) websites. The registration process is free of cost and takes only 2 to 3 days to complete.
The authority urged all relevant stakeholders to register their VPNs to ensure uninterrupted and secure online business operations.
