Peshawar: Protests by elected local government representatives escalated as they marched from Jinnah Park to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, demanding restoration of powers and release of funds.

Clashes Outside KP Assembly

Demonstrators attempted to enter the Red Zone, prompting police to block routes and deploy tear gas to disperse the crowd. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Road was sealed off on both sides, causing traffic disruptions.

Heavy Security Deployed

A heavy police contingent, along with prison vans and water cannons, was stationed to manage the situation. Protesters, joined by citizens, raised slogans against the government, accusing it of neglecting local governance.

The unrest highlights mounting frustrations over limited resources and diminishing authority for local representatives, with calls for immediate resolution intensifying.
