Riyadh: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Riyadh for a two-day visit to attend the One Water Summit at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This marks his fifth visit to the Kingdom this year, underscoring the deep-rooted and historic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which span across cultural, economic, trade, and defense sectors.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the summit, co-hosted by Saudi Arabia, France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank, aims to promote global cooperation on water resource management through high-level political commitments and a coordinated international approach.
During the summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will deliver a keynote address focusing on the restoration, conservation, and sustainable management of freshwater resources and wetlands. He will also highlight Pakistan’s initiatives to promote water conservation, enhance resilience to climate change impacts, improve water quality, support livelihoods, and protect biodiversity.
The Prime Minister will emphasize the critical need for international collaboration in tackling the effects of climate change, including floods, extreme weather events, and the pressure on water resources and ecosystems. He will call for meaningful global cooperation to ensure the sustainable management of water resources.
During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss regional developments and other key bilateral matters. He will also hold meetings with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and other global leaders.
