President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need for a concerted national effort to increase Pakistan’s forest cover, highlighting its crucial role in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change and global warming. He made these remarks while participating in the annual Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign by planting a “Neem” sapling at Bilawal House in Karachi.
President Zardari stressed that Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change necessitates immediate action to protect the environment. He encouraged the youth and civil society to take an active role in planting more trees in their communities, emphasizing the importance of expanding forested areas to counteract rising temperatures and environmental degradation.
The President praised the Neem tree for its environmental benefits, including providing clean air, cool shade, and serving as a natural mosquito repellent. He recalled his earlier efforts in promoting tree plantation during his tenure as Minister for Climate, which saw Neem trees planted nationwide.
