Islamabad: Religious Seminaries Registration Now Governed by New Legislation
President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Societies Registration Act 2024, addressing the longstanding issue of registering religious seminaries. The bill, now a law, mandates the registration of seminaries under the guidelines of the Societies Registration Act.
The National Assembly is expected to issue the official gazette notification soon, formalizing the implementation of the act.
This development follows the federal cabinet’s approval two days ago, which accepted the demand of Maulana Fazlur Rehman to introduce a presidential ordinance for seminary registration.
The move comes after Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Sindh General Secretary Maulana Rashid Soomro met with President Zardari in Larkana. Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was also present during the meeting, which emphasized resolving issues related to religious seminaries.
With the President’s signature, the legislation marks a significant step toward regulating religious institutions in Pakistan.
