Islamabad: Prime Minister’s political advisor, Rana Sanaullah, has warned the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of a stricter response if it resorts to disruptive actions on February 8, similar to those of November 26.
Speaking on ARY News’ program ‘Aitraaz Hai’, Sanaullah stated that PTI lacks understanding of the parliamentary democratic system. While acknowledging PTI’s public support, he criticized the party for refusing to recognize the existence of other political groups.
He further said that PTI’s reluctance to engage in dialogue is another major drawback, emphasizing that political negotiations help resolve major issues. “Political forces should always opt for dialogue,” he added.
Referring to PTI leaders’ claims, Sanaullah dismissed allegations that Nawaz Sharif obstructed negotiations. “Had it not been for Nawaz Sharif’s approval, how could we have held talks with PTI? The negotiations took place with his consent,” he clarified.
He reiterated Nawaz Sharif’s stance that political engagement was necessary for steering the country out of crises. “If PTI disagreed with a press conference, they should not have walked away from negotiations. They could have discussed their concerns in the meeting,” he stated.
Regarding the breakdown of talks, Sanaullah asserted that the government was not outright rejecting PTI’s proposals but was offering alternatives. “Accepting all of PTI’s demands without discussion does not constitute an agreement or compromise. PTI should not have boycotted the talks; a solution could have been reached,” he maintained.
He urged PTI to engage in discussions and present a peaceful method for protests. “If demonstrations turn violent, the government will have justification for taking strict action,” he warned.
Issuing a final caution, the advisor stressed that every democratic government allows a certain degree of protest but warned that any violent tactics on February 8 would be met with a firm response.
