PML-N Senior Leader Sadiq al-Farooq Passes Away After Prolonged Illness

Islamabad – Senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), journalist, and author Sadiq al-Farooq passed away in Islamabad after a prolonged battle with kidney disease. He was 74.

The funeral prayers for the late politician will be held tomorrow at 11 AM at H-11 Cemetery in Islamabad.

Sadiq al-Farooq was a seasoned journalist, author of two books, and a devoted member of PML-N since joining the party in 1993. Over the years, he served in key roles, including as the press secretary to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, chairman of the House Building Finance Corporation, and head of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB).

He was also the elder brother of senior journalist Azhar Malik.

Tributes from Party Leaders

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sadiq al-Farooq, offering condolences to his family. In a statement, the Prime Minister remarked, “The party has lost a loyal and wise politician. Sadiq al-Farooq’s contributions to the PML-N will always be remembered.”

Irfan Siddiqui, PML-N’s parliamentary leader in the Senate, paid tribute to Farooq’s resilience and unwavering loyalty during challenging times. He said, “Sadiq al-Farooq faced adversities with bravery and refused to betray Nawaz Sharif despite immense pressure during authoritarian regimes.”

Known for his steadfast commitment to democracy and the PML-N’s ideology, Sadiq al-Farooq played a crucial role in the party’s resistance against dictatorship. His demise marks the loss of a principled politician and a dedicated public servant whose legacy will remain a source of inspiration for many.
