Senior PML-N leader Javed Latif has called on the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to resign following the Supreme Court’s verdict declaring PTI eligible for seats reserved for women and non-Muslims. Latif believes the decision will lead to increased political unrest and instability, questioning why Imran Khan seems to receive special treatment.
The SC verdict overturned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to refuse PTI reserved seats due to the party’s failure to submit its candidate list before the deadline. The Peshawar High Court had upheld the ECP’s decision, but the Supreme Court ultimately ruled in favor of PTI.
The ECP has allocated reserved seats to various parties in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh Assemblies. In the National Assembly, the ruling coalition, comprising PML-N, PPP, and allies, gained a two-thirds majority due to the PHC ruling, increasing PML-N’s seats to 123 and PPP’s to 73, while PTI held 82 seats.
Latif’s call for the government to step down comes amid growing political tensions, with some lawmakers facing disqualification. The situation highlights the ongoing political instability and rivalries in Pakistan’s political landscape.
