PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders Immediate Closure of Inefficient Power Plants and Accelerates Renewable Energy Projects

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate closure of outdated power plants that generate less electricity while consuming more fuel, in an effort to reduce electricity costs for the public. He also called for an acceleration of the implementation of future power production projects.

Chairing a meeting to review power generation and transmission systems, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to prioritize low-cost power projects and local resources. The meeting also provided updates on the progress of ongoing hydroelectric projects across the country.

Prime Minister Sharif highlighted that globally, eco-friendly and cost-effective solar power is being used for electricity generation. He pointed out that hydroelectric power, being environmentally friendly, could provide affordable electricity to consumers. He further noted that Pakistan is fortunate to have vast potential for solar energy, and the current electricity capacity should be transitioned to solar power.
