Islamabad:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the Afghan government to adopt a decisive policy against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), asserting that dual policies will no longer be tolerated.

Addressing a federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, underscoring the sacrifices made by security forces. “Our armed forces and law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to counter terrorism. Recently, we faced a tragic incident where 16 Frontier Corps personnel were martyred, and just yesterday, our forces eliminated militants in North Waziristan, though a major also embraced martyrdom in the operation,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s aspiration for strengthened ties with Afghanistan, particularly in economic and trade cooperation, which he believes could foster mutual growth. However, he expressed disappointment over the continued operations of the TTP from Afghan soil, leading to the loss of innocent Pakistani lives.

“This approach is unacceptable. We have repeatedly conveyed to the Afghan government that while we desire cordial relations, the TTP must be completely dismantled. They should not be allowed to harm innocent Pakistanis,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

He further stated that Pakistan’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, calling the presence and operations of TTP from Afghanistan a “red line.” “The Afghan government must develop a concrete strategy on this matter. We are open to dialogue, but the coexistence of diplomatic overtures with tolerance for TTP activities is not an option. This duality cannot continue,” he asserted.

In a separate remark commemorating the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Shehbaz Sharif praised her as a courageous leader who sacrificed her life for democracy. “Benazir Bhutto’s contributions to the nation and democracy are unparalleled. The Charter of Democracy, signed by her and Nawaz Sharif in London, remains a cornerstone for Pakistan’s political progress,” he said.

Additionally, the Prime Minister addressed concerns about the shortage of medical supplies in Parachinar. “The federal government swiftly responded by dispatching 1,000 kilograms of medicines via helicopter through the NDMA. We have also facilitated the transfer of patients to Islamabad for treatment,” he concluded.
