Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take additional measures to increase the country’s exports and enhance agricultural output.
Chairing a review meeting on the performance of the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of bolstering exports and improving agricultural yields. He instructed the convening of the National Export Development Board meeting next week and called for immediate steps to create employment opportunities in the border districts of Balochistan.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also directed measures to increase rice exports to Malaysia, stressing the activation of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to facilitate export growth.
The Prime Minister ordered the formation of a Cabinet Special Committee to devise strategies for increasing the production of key crops, including wheat, cotton, sugarcane, rice, edible oil, and other essential agricultural commodities. The committee will present its recommendations based on expert opinions.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with Russia for agricultural trade under a barter trade agreement. Additionally, the government of Tajikistan has expressed interest in collaborating with Pakistan in the textile sector.
