PM Shehbaz Calls for Holding Israel Accountable for War Crimes at SCO Summit

Astana: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the 24th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, emphasizing the need for multilateralism to address regional and global challenges. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful dispute resolution, opposing unilateral force and terrorism, and urged SCO members to collectively combat terrorism, poverty, and disputes, particularly Israel’s actions in Palestine.

The prime minister called for accountability for Israel’s war crimes, citing the UNHR Council’s report and International Court of Justice’s declaration of genocide. He emphasized the need for a ceasefire, humanitarian access, and resolution of disputes according to UN resolutions, supporting a two-state solution with a Palestinian state and Al-Quds as its capital.

PM Shehbaz also highlighted terrorism, Islamophobia, Afghanistan’s instability, poverty, climate change, and regional connectivity as key issues. He expressed confidence in Chinese President Xi Jinping’s leadership and welcomed Belarus as the newest SCO member.

During Pakistan’s 2025-26 term on the UN Security Council, PM Shehbaz committed to pursuing peaceful dispute resolution, opposing unilateral force, combating terrorism, and advancing SCO’s agenda. He emphasized effective multilateralism within the UN framework to address global challenges.
