Islamabad (News Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the immediate arrest of all individuals involved in human trafficking within a week and instructed the formation of a committee under the Interior Minister to devise sustainable solutions to eradicate the practice.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on Friday addressing measures to curb human trafficking. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and senior officials from relevant departments.
The session reviewed a report by the committee led by Mushtaq Sukhera, formed after the December 2024 migrant boat tragedy near Greece. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Sukhera for compiling a comprehensive report and emphasized taking decisive action against those involved in the trafficking trade.
PM Sharif instructed authorities to arrest all individuals connected to human trafficking and initiate legal proceedings against them. He also called for enhanced prosecution measures and questioned the lack of disciplinary action against complicit government officials.
The Prime Minister directed that visa verification and regulatory checks for individuals traveling abroad be strengthened. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating human trafficking entirely from Pakistan.Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif ordered the creation of a committee led by the Interior Minister to find long-term solutions to the issue.The meeting also included a briefing on the identification of Pakistani victims from the Greece boat tragedy and progress on repatriating their remains.
