Mehmood Khan Achakzai, chairman of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), emphasized the need for political parties to be given the right to run the country without interference from non-political quarters. He believes Pakistan can become an Asian tiger if this happens.
Achakzai stated that political parties and leaders have the right to govern since they are elected through the vote of the people. He highlighted the rich natural resources and minerals in Pakhtun land and criticized the discriminatory policies of successive rulers that have led to poverty among Pakhtuns.
He reminded that Pakhtuns have been living in the region for thousands of years and are equal citizens of Pakistan, deserving of their due rights. Achakzai emphasized the importance of imposing the Constitution to protect Pakistan from breaking and ensuring education in mother languages as per the Constitution.
He alleged that the last general elections were rigged and expressed willingness to engage in talks with the establishment for a dignified exit from politics. Achakzai also called for impartial inquiries into the May 9 incidents, the fall of East Pakistan in 1971, and Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
