Petroleum Dealers Threaten Nationwide Strike Over Advance Tax

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has warned that petrol stations across the country will shut down on July 5 if the 0.5% advance turnover tax is not revoked. PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan says the tax makes it impossible to sustain businesses, citing plummeting sales and smuggling concerns. Khan urges the government to reconsider and abolish the tax, warning that dealers will have no choice but to shut down operations nationwide. A delegation of dealers is set to meet with the Finance Minister, Petroleum Minister, and FBR Chairman in Islamabad to resolve the issue.
