Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stating that individuals join the board using their influence and make decisions at will, enjoying extravagant benefits.
Speaking to the media, Rana Sanaullah said Pakistan has emerged from its economic crisis, and the government’s performance over the past year has been commendable. Addressing concerns about cabinet reshuffles, he assured that new ministers would not affect government policies, emphasizing the need for stability and inclusivity in governance.
Commenting on the coalition with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), he stated that both parties depend on each other to maintain the government. He acknowledged that grievances exist within their ranks but stressed that a committee, comprising members from both parties, regularly meets to address concerns and ensure smooth governance.
Regarding the opposition’s grand alliance, he welcomed the initiative, calling it a positive step for democracy, involving experienced politicians like Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Mehmood Khan Achakzai.
On the topic of the PCB, Rana Sanaullah remarked that while the board operates independently, its affairs should be scrutinized by the cabinet and parliament. He criticized the high salaries of officials, stating that individuals are being hired as mentors on salaries of PKR 5–6 million per month, often without a clear job description.
“This is not just about one chairman; it has been happening for years. Look at the state of college and club-level cricket. Where is the money being spent?” he questioned.
He urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take notice and recommended that the issue be discussed in parliament, emphasizing that sports organizations, including other associations, should not be treated as retirement havens for officials.
