Peshawar : Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, emphasized that sustainable peace in the region cannot be achieved without engaging in dialogue with Afghanistan. Speaking to the media in Peshawar, he expressed concerns over the deteriorating security situation and criticized the federal government’s approach to addressing the issue.
Gandapur asserted that law and order remain a federal responsibility, but his government is taking steps to improve the situation in the province. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the police and security forces in combating terrorism and called for patience, stating that filling the security vacuum will take time.
“During our government in the federation, there wasn’t a single terrorist attack in the province. Since the PDM came to power, state institutions have shifted focus towards pursuing PTI instead of ensuring security, giving a free hand to terrorists,” he said.
The Chief Minister reiterated the importance of dialogue with Afghanistan to resolve cross-border issues, stressing that both nations must collaborate to tackle shared challenges. “Afghanistan is our neighbor, and the world is beginning to accept it. We need to engage constructively with them to address border issues and avoid further escalation,” he added.
Gandapur also called for a review of Pakistan’s counterterrorism policies, advocating for the elimination of ineffective strategies that lead to losses.
He highlighted his government’s achievements, including a 24% increase in revenue and significant development initiatives. “We have released substantial funds for ongoing projects, including the construction of transmission lines, which mark a step towards progress,” he said.
Addressing the PTI’s civil disobedience movement, Gandapur stated that any decision made by party founder Imran Khan would be implemented. He reaffirmed his dual commitment to the province and his party, underscoring the critical role Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has played in the country’s political movements.
Gandapur concluded by emphasizing the province’s frontline role in combating terrorism and delivering progress despite federal challenges.
