The Paralympic Games organizers have taken steps to address the accommodation needs of Morteza Mehrzadselakjani, the world’s second-tallest man, who is competing in the sitting volleyball event. Due to his exceptional height of over eight feet, Morteza has faced challenges in finding a bed that can accommodate him, forcing him to sleep on the floor.
In response to concerns raised by his coach, the Paralympic organizers have informed Newsround that they will provide a new bed with additional extensions to ensure Morteza’s comfort. This move comes after the Iranian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) was offered two extensions for the standard beds in the Paralympic village, which proved insufficient for Morteza’s height.
Despite the initial bed issue, Morteza and his team remain focused on their goal of winning their eighth sitting volleyball tournament. Iran has an impressive record in the sport, having won seven out of nine tournaments they have participated in.
The Paralympic organizers’ prompt response to address Morteza’s needs demonstrates their commitment to ensuring that all athletes have equal access to comfortable and suitable accommodations, enabling them to perform at their best.
