The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has offered another explanation for the country’s ongoing internet issues, denying any intentional throttling of the internet. However, the lack of clarity has fueled speculation and concern among senators and citizens.

PTA Chairman Rehman Malik attributed the slow internet speeds to technical problems, deflecting blame for the intermittent shutdowns of platforms like TikTok and the alleged use of firewalls. Senators questioned the PTA’s handling of the situation, citing the impact on businesses and the prolonged ban on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The PTA chairman hopes to resolve the internet issues within a week and clarified that VPNs are not being blocked. However, the lack of transparency has raised concerns about the government’s role in the internet slowdown.

In a separate development, the PTA informed the Lahore High Court that a fault in the submarine cable is affecting internet speed, and repairs are ongoing. The court has adjourned the hearing till August 27, granting more time for the federal government and authorities to submit detailed replies.
