COLOMBO( The COW News Digital) Pakistan’s women’s cricket team will take on England today in their quest for their first victory at the ongoing ICC Women’s One Day World Cup 2025, with the match scheduled to begin at 3 PM local time at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

After suffering defeats in their earlier fixtures, the Green Shirts are desperate to register their first win of the tournament. However, rain disruptions and limited outdoor practice time have hampered the team’s preparations ahead of the crucial encounter.

According to team management, Pakistan’s training session on Tuesday was interrupted by persistent rain, allowing the players only two hours of practice. Despite the shortened session, the coaching staff focused intensely on batting and bowling drills under floodlights, as part of a night training session aimed at improving match readiness.

Batters and bowlers were individually guided on technique and shot selection, while the coaching team emphasized discipline and adaptability under pressure. However, due to wet ground conditions, the fielding session had to be cancelled, denying the players much-needed practice in catching and ground fielding — areas that have been a recurring concern in recent games.

England, on the other hand, enter the match as strong favorites, boasting a balanced lineup and solid performances in their previous matches. Their top-order batters and aggressive pace attack have given them a strong start to the tournament.

Pakistan captain Nida Dar expressed optimism despite recent setbacks, saying the team remains motivated and focused. “We know our potential — we just need one good performance to turn things around,” she said before the match. “The weather and pitch conditions will play a key role, and we are prepared for both.”

The match comes a day after the New Zealand vs. Sri Lanka fixture was washed out due to heavy rain, raising concerns that weather could again impact today’s game.

Pakistan’s fans are hopeful that the team will rise to the occasion, as a victory against a strong side like England could revive their campaign and boost morale for the remaining matches.

The Green Shirts will rely on their spin attack and middle-order resilience to challenge England’s powerful batting lineup in what promises to be a key contest in Group B.
