Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take decisive action to halt the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a Friday session of the UNSC discussing the situation in Gaza, Pakistan demanded an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. Addressing the council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing them as not a war, but an ongoing campaign of eviction, ethnic cleansing, and destruction. He called on the international community to unite in defense of the UN Charter and international law.

Iftikhar emphasized that the UNSC was at a critical juncture in history, asking whether the council would fulfill its responsibilities or turn a blind eye to the crisis. He stressed that the Palestinian people expect justice, peace, and the promise of a better future from the UNSC.

He further stated, “We should not disappoint them. The bloodshed in Gaza must end, and the suffering of innocent men, women, and children must stop.”

Pakistan also reiterated its demand for full UN membership for Palestine, describing it as an ethical necessity that would provide an irreversible guarantee for the two-state solution. Iftikhar urged the Security Council to immediately call for an unconditional ceasefire, which would help stop the ongoing bloodshed and destruction in Gaza.

Additionally, he called on the UNSC to play a role in ending the inhumane blockade of Gaza, ensuring the establishment of secure and stable humanitarian corridors, and carrying out independent and transparent investigations into attacks on medical infrastructure and other war crimes.
