United Nations: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to demand an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to halt the ongoing bloodshed and devastation in Gaza.
Addressing the UNSC during discussions on the Palestinian issue and the broader situation in the Middle East, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, emphasized the urgent need to end the violence in Gaza. He urged the international community to unite in upholding the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
The Pakistani envoy called on the Security Council to establish safe humanitarian corridors, ensuring access to life-saving medical care and prioritizing the reconstruction of Gaza’s devastated healthcare infrastructure. He reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding demand for full UN membership for Palestine, describing it as a moral imperative to solidify the two-state solution.
Unrelenting Violence in Gaza
For the past 16 months, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have caused widespread devastation. Over 45,600 Palestinians have lost their lives, and more than 100,000 have been injured. Gaza City lies in ruins, with all its hospitals destroyed, leaving residents without access to essential medical care.
Despite repeated calls from the UN and the global community for an end to the bombardment, the Israeli government continues its military campaign, committing what many have labeled as war crimes and acts of genocide. In the past two days alone, Israeli strikes have killed more than 140 Palestinians in Gaza.
Pakistan’s Solidarity with Palestine
Pakistan has consistently raised its voice in support of the Palestinian people at every international forum. Across the country, hundreds of protests have been held to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. Over the past 18 months, the Pakistani public has played an active role in providing relief, sending thousands of tons of food and aid to displaced Palestinians.
The international community continues to call for an end to the violence in Gaza, with Pakistan urging the UNSC to take decisive action to protect Palestinian lives and uphold global peace and justice.
