Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, has announced plans to further enhance trade relations with Tajikistan, aiming to position Pakistan as a central trade hub for Central Asia. Addressing the Pakistan-Tajikistan Business Forum at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday, he highlighted the untapped potential for trade between the two nations.

Minister Khan emphasized that direct flights between Pakistan and Tajikistan would simplify trade, and a preferential trade agreement between the countries would soon be finalized. “Pakistan’s products are of the highest quality, particularly in engineering, textiles, and surgical equipment, and our IT exports are making a global impact,” he said, pointing out the government’s efforts to boost the IT sector.

He also noted that Pakistani ports could offer excellent facilities for Tajik imports, and participating in trade fairs with Central Asian countries would be facilitated. The Minister mentioned the improving economic indicators, with inflation decreasing, and a favorable environment being created for investment, guided by the Special Investment Council for foreign investors.

Minister Khan further stated that Pakistan’s strategic geographic location makes it an ideal partner for Tajikistan in terms of trade, and the two nations would work to strengthen their economic cooperation. “This business forum is an important step toward fostering a strong partnership, and such forums should continue regularly,” he concluded.
