In a move to strengthen bilateral relations, Pakistan has announced a visa-free policy for Chinese citizens starting August 14, 2024. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made the announcement during a meeting with a 12-member high-level Chinese delegation led by Minister Wang Fukang.
The premier described the Sino-Pak relations as “higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans,” emphasizing the strong bond between the two nations. He expressed his desire to model Pakistan’s economy after China’s, seeking to achieve similar economic success.
PM Sharif believes that industrial cooperation between Pakistan and China will create a win-win situation, enhancing bilateral arrangements in areas like industry, agriculture, and economic zones. He also highlighted the potential for joint ventures and cooperation in areas like mining and minerals, IT, and export zones.
The visa-free policy is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with China. Despite calls from certain Western countries to reconsider this alliance, Islamabad remains firmly focused on its relationship with Beijing. China has proven to be a reliable ally for Pakistan at pivotal times, providing swift extensions of loans to help avert potential defaults.
The premier also assured the Chinese delegation that stringent measures have been implemented to secure Chinese investments and personnel across Pakistan. This commitment to security is crucial for the success of joint ventures and cooperation between the two nations.
