Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has initiated a special operation, “Operation Ashura”, to facilitate pilgrims traveling to Najaf, Iraq, during the upcoming Ashura commemorations. This operation aims to provide a seamless travel experience for pilgrims during this significant period of religious observance.

The flights operation commenced on July 5, with additional flights scheduled for July 7 and July 11. Return operations are scheduled to commence on July 20, with flights set for July 21 and July 25 to bring pilgrims back from Najaf. The flights will transport Shia pilgrims to Najaf and also ensure their safe return.

The cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq hold significant importance for Shia Muslims around the world, many of whom travel to these cities during the first two months of the Islamic lunar calendar to recall the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
