Islamabad( The COW News Digital)In a major development for Pakistan’s seafood industry, the United States has granted Pakistan a four-year permission to export fish and other marine products. The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, who described the approval as a recognition of Pakistan’s compliance with international seafood standards.

“This approval is a global acknowledgment of the high quality of Pakistani seafood,” said Chaudhry. “Our fisheries have met U.S. standards, and this will ensure a continuous export stream for marine products.”

According to the minister, the U.S. approval will stabilize Pakistan’s seafood exports, opening new economic opportunities and reinforcing the country’s position in the global market. The decision is expected to strengthen trade relations between Pakistan and the United States, boosting confidence among exporters and investors in the fisheries sector.

Pakistan has made significant progress in modernizing its seafood industry over the past few years. Facilities and processing plants were upgraded to meet stringent U.S. import requirements, including hygiene, handling, and quality control measures. This compliance paved the way for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to extend the approval.

Highlighting the economic impact, Chaudhry stated that Pakistan exported 242,000 tons of fish last year, generating $489 million in foreign exchange. With the new U.S. approval, exports are projected to reach $600 million next year, signaling strong growth potential for the sector.

Experts suggest that the move will not only benefit the fisheries industry but also support employment and rural communities dependent on fishing. With access to the lucrative U.S. market, Pakistani exporters can now expand their operations, improve supply chains, and compete more effectively on the international stage.

The minister also emphasized that the government will continue to provide support to the fisheries sector through incentives, modern infrastructure, and capacity-building programs. This step is expected to increase production, ensure sustainability, and promote Pakistan as a reliable seafood exporter globally.

Pakistan’s entry into the U.S. seafood market is seen as a landmark achievement, reflecting the country’s growing adherence to global standards in food safety and quality. Authorities remain committed to maintaining these standards and exploring further trade opportunities with other international markets.

With the U.S. market now accessible, Pakistan’s seafood industry is poised for a new era of growth, economic stability, and global recognition.
