Islamabad( The COW News Digital)Pakistan has decided to extend its ban on Indian flights for another month, maintaining restrictions on the use of Pakistani airspace by Indian carriers. The official notice regarding the extension has been issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA).

According to the PAA, the airspace closure for Indian aircraft will now remain in effect until September 23, 2025. The move continues Pakistan’s suspension of Indian flights, which initially began on April 23 earlier this year.

Officials explained that the extension of the airspace ban applies to both Indian government-operated and private airlines, reinforcing the ongoing restrictions on commercial and non-commercial flights. PAA authorities stated that the decision is consistent with Pakistan’s previous measures to regulate airspace usage amid continuing tensions between the two neighboring countries.

Industry sources indicate that the initial closure has already caused significant financial losses for Indian carriers. Estimates suggest that Indian airlines have collectively suffered losses exceeding 65 billion Pakistani rupees due to the restricted access to Pakistan’s air routes. Airlines have been forced to reroute flights over longer corridors, resulting in increased fuel costs, extended flight times, and operational disruptions.

The Pakistani government has not indicated any immediate plans to lift the restrictions before the new September deadline. Aviation analysts note that the continuation of this ban reflects broader diplomatic and security concerns that have persisted between Pakistan and India over the past year.

International aviation authorities have been monitoring the situation, given the potential impact on regional air traffic and commercial operations. The PAA, however, has reiterated that the decision is within Pakistan’s sovereign rights to manage its airspace, while also emphasizing that safety and security considerations remain the top priority.

The extension of the ban has sparked reactions from Indian aviation operators, who warn of continued financial strain and logistical challenges. Passengers traveling between the two countries have also faced disruptions, with longer flight durations and limited direct connectivity impacting travel plans and tourism.

While no immediate diplomatic resolution has been reported, observers suggest that the airspace ban may continue to be used as leverage in ongoing political and strategic negotiations between Pakistan and India.
