In a move to strengthen Pakistan’s cricket structure, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed five legendary cricketers as mentors for the upcoming Champions Cup. Sarfaraz Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Malik will guide the teams in the Champions One-Day Cup, scheduled for September 12-29 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

These mentors bring a wealth of cricketing experience, knowledge, and expertise to the table, which will help identify, develop, and nurture the next generation of cricketers across all formats. Their role will be pivotal in the development and progression of emerging cricketers, guiding strategic planning, team-building processes, and providing support in leadership and personal development.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his pleasure in welcoming these exceptional champions as mentors, stating that they will help bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket. He emphasized the PCB’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s cricket through a robust domestic structure that offers a clear and competitive pathway for all cricketers.

The Champions One-Day Cup will feature the best crop of cricketers from Pakistan, competing in a single-league competition. The tournament will serve as the homecoming of men’s seniors’ competitive cricket in Faisalabad after nearly two years.

The appointment of these legendary cricketers as mentors is a significant step towards developing Pakistan’s cricket talent. Their involvement will not only benefit the Pakistan men’s cricket team but also help create a strong foundation for future generations of cricketers.
