Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Office has confirmed conducting an intelligence-based operation against terrorists in Afghanistan to counter threats to its citizens’ safety.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that Pakistan conducted the operation in Afghanistan’s border regions. She clarified that the operation was based on credible intelligence and aimed at neutralizing threats to Pakistani citizens.
Baloch emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue in managing bilateral relations with Afghanistan. “We respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she added, highlighting Pakistan’s priority of safeguarding its citizens against terrorist threats.
Strained Relations Amid Border Tensions
The announcement comes as relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain tense due to ongoing border skirmishes. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to take action against the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which it accuses of using Afghan soil for attacks in Pakistan. The Afghan Taliban government has denied these allegations.
Earlier this week, Pakistani fighter jets reportedly targeted four suspected TTP camps in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, with multiple suspected terrorists being neutralized, according to Pakistani security officials. In response, the Afghan Taliban lodged a strong protest with Islamabad, warning that any violation of Afghanistan’s territorial sovereignty is a “red line” for the ruling Emirate.
