Pakistan, China Agree to Boost Security Cooperation

Islamabad( The COW News Digital)Pakistan’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, concluded a key visit to China where both nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral security cooperation. The visit took place in the context of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit of national security secretaries, held in China.

During the visit, Lt. Gen. Asim Malik engaged in high-level meetings with Chinese leadership, focusing on mutual security interests, regional stability, and counterterrorism strategies. According to official sources, both sides reached a consensus on expanding joint security frameworks, including intelligence sharing, border security, and cooperation against transnational threats.

The NSA participated in the SCO Security Council Secretaries’ Meeting, where he reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance on global peace and regional harmony. Speaking at the forum, Malik emphasized Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and regional stability through diplomatic engagement and constructive dialogue.

He also underlined the importance of multilateral forums like the SCO in addressing emerging security challenges such as cyber threats, extremism, and climate-linked security risks. The Pakistani delegation stressed that collective action and cooperation among member states are essential for ensuring long-term regional peace.

General Malik also conveyed Pakistan’s firm support for the SCO’s evolving role in fostering economic and security integration across Eurasia. The Chinese leadership appreciated Pakistan’s contributions within the SCO framework and acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts in counterterrorism and border management. Both nations agreed to maintain close strategic coordination on regional developments, particularly in Afghanistan and the wider Central Asian region.

Observers believe the visit signals a renewed push for deeper Pakistan-China strategic ties, especially in the context of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) security and rising geopolitical tensions in South Asia.

This visit comes at a time when Pakistan is actively seeking stronger partnerships to combat evolving security threats and solidify its regional standing. The outcomes are expected to shape future cooperation initiatives within the SCO framework and beyond.
