Pakistan is joining the global community in celebrating International Youth Day today, recognizing the invaluable contributions of the country’s young generation to its progress. President Asif Ali Zardari praised the youth, calling them “our most valuable asset” and urging them to seize opportunities and work towards the betterment of the country.

The United Nations has chosen the theme “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development” for this year’s International Youth Day, highlighting the connection between digitalization and accelerating Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) progress. The theme emphasizes the pivotal role of young people in this transformative process.

According to the UN, young people have higher access to digital technologies compared to other demographic groups. However, the digital divide and inequalities persist, especially in low-income countries and in terms of gender. President Zardari highlighted the government’s initiatives to empower youth, including the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, which has distributed 600,000 laptops nationwide and provided training to 450,000 young individuals.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized the need to empower young people and work with them as equals to achieve the SDGs. He called for bridging digital divides, boosting investments in education, and supporting young innovators in expanding digital solutions.
