Pakistan Assumes Responsibilities as Non-Permanent Member of UN Security Council

Islamabad, New York (Web Desk) – Pakistan has officially assumed its duties as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The ceremony marking the handover of responsibilities took place at the UN, where Pakistan’s Additional Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar, raised the national flag in the Security Council chamber. Pakistan will serve as a non-permanent member for a two-year term.

Alongside Pakistan, the flags of other non-permanent members, including Denmark, Greece, Panama, and Somalia, were also raised.

Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Munir Akram expressed Pakistan’s commitment to taking an active role in addressing global challenges within the Security Council. He emphasized that the security situation in Pakistan has significantly improved, noting that the country is strong and unified.

Asim Iftikhar reiterated Pakistan’s clear stance on Afghanistan, stating that the country desires a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. He highlighted that discussions on Afghanistan continue to feature prominently within the Security Council.
