Islamabad:
Pakistan and India have exchanged lists of prisoners in each other’s custody, as part of the consular access agreement signed in 2008. Under this agreement, both countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners every year on January 1 and July 1.
According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan handed over its list to a representative of the Indian High Commission. The list reveals that there are 266 Indian prisoners in Pakistan, including 49 civilians and 217 fishermen.
The spokesperson further stated that India provided the list of Pakistani prisoners to an official of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. The list indicates that 462 Pakistani nationals are currently incarcerated in Indian jails, including 381 civilians and 81 fishermen.
