Pakistan has rejected IMF demands to increase petroleum levy by another Rs10,
IMF’s proposal to impose a carbon tax was also rejected as technical-level talks between Pakistan and IMF has completed. The policy-level talks will begin on Monday. The IMF had also demanded an increase in federal excise duty on cars.
On the other hand, the International Monetary Fund has praised the economic performance of the Sindh government. It has described the Sindh government’s achievement of most of its economic targets and its performance in the last eight months as satisfactory.
The Sindh government posted a surplus of Rs 264 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year. The IMF has also emphasized the need to increase funds for education, public health, and drinking water quality in Sindh province, and to improve the quality of life in backward districts.
