Islamabad: The opposition parties, led by PTI’s leader Umar Ayub, staged a walkout from the National Assembly after their political demands were not met. The protest was triggered by the continued detention of PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, and the alleged harassment of party members in Punjab.
The session, presided over by Deputy Speaker Syed Mir Ghulam Mustafa Shah, began with a quorum issue, raised by PTI member Iqbal Afridi. The Deputy Speaker called for a 15-minute break after the quorum was found to be incomplete.
Umar Ayub Khan, the opposition leader, criticized the absence of key government ministers in the session, pointing out that only one Minister of State and one federal minister were present. “Where are the other ministers?” he questioned.
As political demands went unaddressed, all opposition parties, except for Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), walked out in protest. Ayub and other senior PTI leaders accused the government of using force against their Punjab members.
Umar Ayub stated, “Until Imran Khan and PTI workers are released, and the threats against our members to resign cease, we will not participate in the proceedings of the assembly.”
