A groundbreaking report has revealed the dire state of education in Pakistan, with the country ranking “Low” in performance. The District Education Performance Index (DEPIx) Report 2023 shows a national average score of 53.46, indicating a crisis in the education sector.

The report highlights significant disparities across provinces and districts, with Punjab emerging as the top performer and Balochistan lagging behind. Alarmingly, over half of Pakistan’s districts (77) are categorized as “Low” in education performance, affecting approximately 36% of the school-age population.

The report emphasizes the need for improved education financing, infrastructure, and governance. It also underscores the importance of addressing inter-provincial disparities to ensure equal access to quality education.

The findings of the report are a wake-up call for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to take immediate action to address the education crisis in Pakistan.
