Nepal Plane Crash Update

A devastating plane crash occurred on Wednesday at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, resulting in the loss of 18 lives. The domestic flight, operated by Saurya Airlines, was headed to Pokhara, a popular resort town in Nepal. The plane, a Bombardier CRJ 200 jet, caught fire while attempting to take off, leaving only the captain alive. He is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.

The crash has raised concerns about Nepal’s poor air safety record, which has been a subject of criticism for years. Since 2000, nearly 350 people have died in plane or helicopter crashes in the Himalayan country. The European Union has banned all Nepali carriers from its airspace due to safety concerns.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and the airport has been temporarily closed. The plane was carrying 17 technicians and two crew members to repair another aircraft in Pokhara. The technicians were from various countries, including Nepal, India, and one foreign national.

Rescue workers and firefighters rushed to the scene to put out the blaze and retrieve the bodies. Television visuals showed the plane flying low above the runway before tilting and crashing into the nearby fields. The wreckage was strewn across the lush green fields, with bodies being carried to ambulances on stretchers.

This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the need for improved air safety measures in Nepal. The government and aviation authorities must take immediate action to address these concerns and prevent such incidents in the future.
