Islamabad( The COW News Digital) The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan has issued a nationwide alert warning of heavy rainfall and potential flooding across multiple regions from August 23 to August 30, 2025. Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution, particularly in mountainous and flood-prone areas.
According to NDMA, severe rainfall is expected in Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab throughout the week. Cities likely to experience significant rainfall include Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Sialkot, Gujrat, and Hafizabad. In the hilly regions, landslides could affect connectivity and disrupt transport routes.
Other districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa forecasted to receive heavy rains include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Malakand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Tank, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat. Similarly, Gilgit-Baltistan areas, including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astor, Ghanche, and Shigar, are expected to experience intense rainfall.
In southern Pakistan, NDMA predicts rainfall in Karachi, Thatta, Sajawal, Badin, and Tharparkar from August 27 to 30. Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, Dadu, Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, and Larkana are also expected to receive heavy showers during this period. Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Shaheed Benazirabad are included in the alert.
Balochistan provinces, including Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, Qalat, Gwadar, Turbat, Kech, and Panjgur, may witness torrential rains, while Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, and Loralai are also forecasted to receive rainfall. Intermittent showers are expected in Barkhan, Musa Khel, Dera Bugti, and Kohlu.
NDMA has highlighted that river levels may rise, with the Indus River at Taunsa, Guddu, and Kalabagh expected to reach flows of up to 500,000 cusecs. Increased water flows are also anticipated in areas adjoining the Ravi and Chenab rivers, posing further flood risks.
Authorities are urging citizens to avoid low-lying areas, stay updated with weather advisories, and take precautionary measures to ensure safety. Emergency services and disaster management teams are on alert to respond to potential flooding and landslide situations.
With the forecast predicting widespread heavy rains, NDMA has emphasized public awareness and preparedness to mitigate the impact of the anticipated extreme weather events across Pakistan.
