NDMA Issues Flash Flood Warning Amid Heavy Rainfall

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for potential flash floods due to ongoing heavy rains in various regions. The National Emergencies Operation Center of NDMA predicts flash floods in local streams and nullahs in several cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, Galliyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, and Kashmir.

Urban flooding is expected in major cities, including Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. The heavy rainfall has led to a medium-level flood in River Kabul, with a net water flow of 93,500 cusecs. However, other major rivers are expected to maintain normal water flow levels.

The NDMA has advised the Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and local administrations to closely monitor the situation and implement necessary measures to protect at-risk populations. The public is urged to stay informed and follow local instructions to ensure their safety.

The NDMA has also encouraged citizens to download the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for timely disaster alerts, guidelines, and precautionary measures. The app provides real-time updates and crucial information to help users prepare for and respond to disasters.

The heavy rainfall has already caused significant damage in various regions, with reports of flooded streets, damaged homes, and disrupted transportation. The NDMA\’s warning comes as a precautionary measure to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.

The authority has also deployed teams to monitor the situation and provide assistance to affected areas. The teams are equipped with necessary resources, including rescue equipment, medical supplies, and food items.

In addition to the flash flood warning, the NDMA has also advised citizens to take precautions against landslides, electrocution, and other hazards associated with heavy rainfall. The authority has urged people to avoid traveling to affected areas unless necessary and to stay away from flooded areas.

The NDMA\’s warning is a crucial step in ensuring public safety during this monsoon season. By issuing timely warnings and providing necessary guidance, the authority has demonstrated its commitment to disaster risk reduction and management.
