In a significant move towards streamlining its operations and reducing unnecessary expenditure, the National Assembly Secretariat has abolished 220 posts from Grade 1 to 19. This decision is part of the Secretariat’s administrative reforms agenda, aimed at improving efficiency and saving resources.

According to a press release issued by the National Assembly, the reforms are being implemented in three phases. The first two phases have already been completed, resulting in the abolition of 220 non-essential posts, which will save the national exchequer more than Rs563 million annually.

The reforms were initiated by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who ordered wide-ranging administrative reforms in the Secretariat. The move is expected to improve the overall functioning of the National Assembly and make it more responsive to the needs of the people.

The abolished posts include non-essential positions in various grades, which were deemed unnecessary for the smooth functioning of the Secretariat. The move is also expected to reduce bureaucratic red tape and improve decision-making processes within the organization.

In addition to the abolition of posts, the National Assembly Secretariat has also implemented an austerity plan, which aims to reduce unnecessary expenditure and promote transparency and accountability. The plan includes measures such as rationalizing needs and requirements, improving procedures, and ensuring transparency in appointments and promotions.

The reforms have been widely welcomed by stakeholders, who see them as a step in the right direction towards improving the functioning of the National Assembly. The move is also expected to set a precedent for other government departments and organizations to follow.
