Morocco is set to make history by building the world’s largest football stadium, the Grand Stade Hassan II, in Casablanca. This architectural marvel is designed to redefine modern stadium architecture, blending traditional Moroccan culture with cutting-edge design. The stadium’s unique design, inspired by traditional social gatherings known as “moussem,” features a giant tented rooftop, seamlessly merging tradition with modernity.

The Grand Stade Hassan II is the brainchild of architecture firm Oualalou+Choi and global sports design experts Populous. François Clément, senior principal and lead architect, stated, “The Grand Stade Hassan II will provide extraordinary spaces that create exceptional experiences for every fan and every visitor.” With a capacity of 115,000 spectators, this stadium is poised to host some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, including the potential final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The stadium’s design features a unique aluminum lattice rooftop, supported by 32 stairways, and three steep tiers at each end, ensuring an engaging view for all fans. The stadium will also feature hospitality areas, including luxurious VIP and VVIP lounges, and will serve as the home ground for two local soccer clubs.

This project is a cornerstone of King Mohammed VI’s vision to develop Morocco’s football infrastructure, elevating the country to the highest global platform of sporting infrastructure development. The Grand Stade Hassan II is set to become a hub of Moroccan soccer, hosting local and international matches, and cementing Morocco’s position as a leader in sports infrastructure development.
