Monsoon Rains Hit Punjab, Triggering Flood Alerts and Safety Measures

Lahore, Pakistan – The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert as monsoon rains commence in Punjab, predicting a 30% increase in rainfall this year. Director General Irfan Ali Kathia warned of urban flooding and flash floods in hill torrents, especially in Southern Punjab.

Rainfall expectations are:

– 15-50 mm in the first week of July

– 25-35 mm in the second week

– 15-25 mm in Upper and South Punjab in the third week

– 50-70 mm in the fourth week

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed all departments to take necessary precautions. PDMA urges district administrations to ensure drainage arrangements and public safety. Citizens are advised to keep children away from waterlogged areas and electrical wires.
