Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed dissatisfaction with the President of Pakistan, stating that the issue surrounding the registration of religious schools (madrasas) has been unnecessarily complicated. He emphasized that there is no disagreement with religious scholars but only with the President regarding his objections to a bill passed by the government.
Speaking to the media in Dera Ismail Khan, Maulana Fazlur Rehman explained that the government had drafted a bill for the registration of madrasas, which was proposed before the elections during Shahbaz Sharif’s tenure. This bill was later unanimously approved by both houses of Parliament.
He questioned why the President had withheld his signature on the bill after the constitutional amendment had been passed. Rehman criticized the unnecessary complications surrounding the issue, holding those responsible for involving religious scholars accountable.
Addressing the scholars directly, he clarified that their dispute was not with the madrasas or the religious leaders but with the President. He also questioned whether the President had the right to send the same bill back twice after it had already been approved by Parliament.
Rehman further added that if some madrasas were registering with the Directorate of Education, they should not be blamed on them. He reiterated that the bill drafted before the elections should have been passed, as originally demanded.
More details on the matter are expected.
