Karachi: A married American woman, lured by the promise of love, has been left stranded in Karachi after a 19-year-old boy who invited her from the U.S. disappeared.
The woman, identified as 33-year-old Onya Andrew Robinson from New York, is a mother of two and reportedly divorced her husband before traveling to Pakistan to meet the teenager from Karachi’s Garden West area.
According to reports, Onya applied for a Pakistani visa on October 5, 2024, and was issued a one-month tourist visa on October 9. Upon her arrival in Karachi, the boy’s parents were shocked to discover that their son’s “love interest” was nearly twice his age, divorced, and a mother of two.
The family’s disapproval led the teenager to flee, abandoning Onya in an unfamiliar city. She initially managed to sustain herself with the money she brought but eventually ended up at Karachi Airport, where she has reportedly been staying for seven days.
Sindh Governor intervened in the matter, arranging for the woman to be issued an extended visa, valid until February 11, 2025. The governor has also made arrangements for her return ticket to the United States.
The incident highlights the vulnerabilities of individuals entrapped in deceptive online relationships, as well as the challenges faced by foreign nationals in such situations.
