Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook, has announced plans to terminate underperforming employees in order to raise performance standards at Meta.
According to an internal memo, Zuckerberg informed his staff that those who fail to meet expectations over the course of a year will be let go, emphasizing the company’s commitment to improving overall performance. The memo further revealed that employees whose performance does not meet set standards would typically be “managed out” – a process where employees are given tasks that could ultimately lead to their dismissal if not fulfilled. However, this time around, employees could face termination sooner based on performance.
Meta has indicated that it will continue to reduce jobs at the same rate as 2024, but the target this time is to achieve a 10% reduction in the current performance cycle. This means that approximately 5% of Meta’s current workforce may be laid off.
Zuckerberg assured that the company will offer generous severance packages to the affected employees.
