PESHAWAR(The COW News Digital) A new survey by Gallup Pakistan reveals that a significant majority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) residents are satisfied with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-launched Sehat Card health initiative, highlighting it as a major success in providing healthcare access to the underprivileged.
According to the survey results, 83% of respondents believe that the Sehat Card has improved healthcare accessibility for the poor in KP. Interestingly, the approval for the program transcended political lines, with even supporters of opposition parties acknowledging its effectiveness.
The Sehat Card, introduced by PTI during its provincial government tenure, allows families to access free treatment at selected public and private hospitals across KP. The initiative has been widely promoted as a landmark step towards universal healthcare in Pakistan.
Beyond healthcare, the survey explored other areas of governance and public satisfaction. Around 70% of respondents praised the government’s efforts to involve youth in governance, and 69% specifically appreciated the inclusion of young people in decision-making processes at the provincial level.
However, opinions were mixed regarding the effectiveness of youth training programs. Only 46% of respondents viewed these programs as successful, while 35% believed they were ineffective. Similarly, vocational training initiatives received moderate praise, with 52% expressing satisfaction and 37% stating otherwise.
The provincial government’s performance in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities also received divided feedback. While 55% of participants acknowledged the government’s efforts in this area, 52% criticized the lack of equal opportunities in education and employment for the disabled community.
Analysts say the survey reflects a generally positive perception of PTI’s governance in key sectors such as healthcare and youth empowerment, despite criticism in other areas like inclusive education and employment.
With upcoming elections and shifting political dynamics in the province, the findings may influence campaign narratives, especially with PTI likely to highlight the Sehat Card as a flagship achievement. However, the mixed responses regarding youth and disability programs indicate areas where public expectations remain unmet.
The survey underscores the importance of policy continuity and more inclusive reforms to strengthen public trust and address diverse community needs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
