The iconic leader celebrated the milestone privately with family, cutting a birthday cake and receiving warm wishes from across Malaysia and beyond. Clad in his signature safari suit, Mahathir did not let the occasion disrupt his routine — he headed straight to his office to carry out a full day of work.
In a special live podcast aired on his birthday, Mahathir reflected on the highs and lows of his extraordinary life. He also revealed what he believes is the secret to his longevity: “Eat less, exercise a little, keep reading and writing, engage in meaningful conversations, and always stimulate your mind.”
Mahathir, who has governed Malaysia across two separate terms, stressed that a healthy and active lifestyle has been his guiding principle. “If a person is fortunate enough to avoid fatal diseases, they can live a long and productive life,” he said. He encouraged people to remain curious, socially engaged, and mentally sharp at all ages.
He credited much of his good health and long life to his 98-year-old wife, Dr. Siti Hasmah, calling her his “best friend” and strongest supporter throughout his career and personal life. “She has always been by my side in every endeavor,” he added with affection.

He reaffirmed his strong support for the Palestinian people, sharply criticizing Israel’s aggressive policies, which he described as “oppressive and illegal.” Mahathir has long been a vocal critic of Western foreign policy and remains steadfast in his pro-justice global stance.
