Lahore( The COW News Digital) A local court in Lahore has ordered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan to appear in person in connection with a case involving an alleged attack on Islamabad police personnel.
According to Express News, the incident reportedly took place outside Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore’s Model Town area. The judicial magistrate for Lahore Cantonment, Sohail Rafiq, issued a formal summons for Imran Khan, currently detained in Adiala Jail, to be presented before the court on July 22, 2025.
The case was initially filed at Islamabad’s Race Course police station and involves charges of inciting violence and obstructing law enforcement. The court has directed jail authorities to ensure Khan’s physical appearance and has issued a robkar (prison transfer order) for compliance.
In the order addressed to the Superintendent of Camp Jail, the magistrate stated that Imran Khan’s presence is essential for the progression of the legal proceedings. The court emphasized that no further delay in hearing the matter will be tolerated.
This summons comes amid a series of legal challenges Imran Khan is facing across various courts, following his ousting as Prime Minister and the subsequent political unrest involving PTI members and supporters. Since his arrest, Khan has been lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and has appeared in court only through video link for most hearings.
Legal analysts believe the decision to summon him physically could signal a turning point in the proceedings and might open the door for new legal strategies by both prosecution and defense.
Meanwhile, PTI’s legal team is reportedly preparing to challenge the order, citing Khan’s security concerns and health condition. However, the court maintained that ensuring Khan’s safety during transit and court appearance is the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies.
The case has drawn national attention, as it ties into broader concerns about political freedoms, accountability, and the treatment of political figures in custody.
As the July 22 court date approaches, political tension remains high, with PTI supporters and opponents closely watching how the judiciary handles the case against one of Pakistan’s most influential political leaders.
